“If Presto-Tap had been permanently installed on the
system, that propane
accident might not have happened.”; and, “If Presto-Tap had been
on the system, we probably would not be in this lawsuit.”
are statements made by multiple LPG
retail executives immediately following a Presto-Tap presentation.
The propane industry,
local jurisdictions, and insurance carriers have established methods,
procedures, and documentation requirements that are not always followed.
Not followed because of time constraints, cost, busy delivery schedule,
personnel availability, or, even, assuming that everything is okay
because this is a long-time customer. Or, because management won’t
absolutely require it.
Presto-Tap leak detection products,
designed to be permanently installed so the system does not have to be
broken again to perform a leak test or get a pressure reading, simply
make it so easy to perform a leak test that it becomes ridiculous not to
follow mandated procedures.
And, coupled with the Presto-Tap Risk
Management Program that addresses the riskiest installations, complying
with industry code and insurance company loss control procedures and
documentation requirements becomes a “snap”, especially for
Will-Call/Out-of-Gas customers and GAS Check®
participants. And, at an average approximate cost of $10, or less, how
many Presto-Taps could your deductible or “stop-loss” pay for ?? In
addition to what you see here, this incident resulted in two deaths.
What do you think the jury award might be? What would happen to your
insurance premium?

THIS “WILL-CALL” CUSTOMER SYSTEM DID NOT HAVE A
PRESTO-TAP®
LDS (Leak
Detection System) INSTALLED.
If Presto-Tap had been installed, this
accident which occurred in October of 2003 would probably have not
occurred because a leak test would have been performed upon installation
and could have been performed again later very easily without “breaking”
the system.
